Free wire wrapping tutorials for beginners. Wire Wrapped Stone Pendants. How to make a stone pendant with wire.
Quite often I get letters with requests to publish free tutorials for beginners. People ask me to show how to weave beads with holes with wire and create simple pendants.
And indeed, lately, I have been under the misleading impression that all of my readers are professionals and that there are no beginners among them. Let’s correct the situation – from now on I will create more Free wire wrapping tutorials for beginners.
Today we will make a simple pendant out of wire and a flat bead with a hole.
What tools will be needed to create a wire pendant.
We definitely won’t need a lot of tools. A basic set of wire cutters and pliers will be enough. I highly recommend buying pliers with silicone tips. This tool is really necessary for working with wire.
I usually use natural wire for my jewelry. I like to patinate the wire and then polish it. If you also use patination, you will need additional materials.
To patinate copper, you will need ammonia or special metal blackening solutions that you can buy at specialty stores. I most often use ammonia to patinate copper. I pour the ammonia into a jar and hang the jewelry piece over the ammonia solution. After a while, when the copper has darkened, I take it out of the jar and polish it.
For polishing, I use a grinder with special felt tips. For better polishing, I use special polishing pastes.
Wire and stone for the pendant.
I used a flat bead with a hole made of natural stone. You can use any shape of the stone with a hole to make the pendant.
We will weave the stone with copper wire. I used 1 mm thick natural copper wire for the base and 0.4 mm thick copper wire for the weaving.

Right now we are going to create a pendant together with you.
The work is not complicated, the lesson is suitable for beginners.
We need a natural copper wire 1 mm thick and about 50-60 cm long. First, put the wire through the hole in the stone.
Place the stone on the wire about midway and bend the wire as shown in the photo below.
Take a thin wire thickness of 0.4 mm and start weaving two wires together by any method of weaving.
You can repeat after me.
Next, you need to make a loop on the pendant for the cord or necklace. I always make a loop in my Free wire wrapping tutorials. Bend the weaving as shown in the photo below.
Connect the two weavings together (sew them) near the stone itself.
Continue weaving the wire. After this point, you can change the way of weaving – thus the pendant will look prettier.
Bend the weaving around the edge of the stone. At the very bottom, you will need to weave three wires together.
Next, you can prettily weave a loop for the cord. Separate the wires and bend them as in the photo. Weave one of the wires with another wire and bend on the front side. The second wire does not need to be weaved – bring it to the back side.
Bend the ends of the wire and make rings. Use the same wire to connect two rings together. The photo below shows the back side of the pendant.
Bend the rings so that they overlap the stone on both sides. The rings will not allow the bead to move freely. Thus, we are locking the bead in place. I often use such a method in my Free wire wrapping tutorials.
Next, it’s time to patinate and polish the copper, if you intended to do so.
Add a necklace or cord and thread it through the loop of the pendant.
Copper will darken over time. To prevent this, the copper wire can be coated with a colorless varnish for metal.
