Alcoholic ink and gilding with potal

Master class. Alcoholic ink and gilding with potal

The technique of alcohol ink is a new direction of painting. Abstractions made in this technique will perfectly fit into any modern interior. And to make the pictures shine in the truest sense of the word, add a little potali. It will give texture and glow.

Materials for work:

alcohol ink;
synthetic paper;
Isopropyl alcohol (isopropranol) or a special diluent for ink. Please note that regular ethyl alcohol is not suitable for work. fan;
pipette;
diaper to protect the table;
gloves; respirator;
potal flakes; glue for potali.

Step 1: Mix the ink

After spreading the diaper on the table, put a piece of paper on it. Pour a small amount of alcohol (diluent) into a plastic cup, drop a few drops of colored ink and gold there (after shaking the can). Stir the contents of the glass.

Please note that when working with alcohol, it is necessary to:
work in a well-ventilated room;
wear gloves and a medical mask or respirator to protect the respiratory tract and skin;
do not use matches or a lighter while drawing, any alcohol is easily ignited.

Step 2: Apply ink to paper

Using a pipette, pour a small amount onto the paper. When you apply ink to a drawing surface with a pipette or drip from a bottle with concentrated ink, the greater the distance, the more interesting the trace from the drop.

Turn on the hair dryer and start blowing ink on the paper, creating the desired shape.

Recommendations for working with a hairdryer:
use cool air;
hold the hair dryer perpendicular to the sheet;
dry the stain around the perimeter from all sides, directing the ink to the center;
the drops can be inflated or smeared, but work very quickly, as the ink dries quickly.

Step 3: Create layers

Next, proceed to creating layers to make the drawing more interesting. Also drip the paint onto the paper and blow dry.

Create layers

Tip: gold can be dripped immediately onto a drop of alcohol already on paper, in this case the gold becomes denser.

Step 4: Add additional colors

When you understand how the ink works and how it looks when dry, add other colors. Note that the colors, when mixed with each other, give a different shade. Use the color wheel to create harmonious combinations and get a beautiful result.

Step 5: Decorate with potala

At the end, you can decorate your work with decorative ornaments, for example, a potala, which will certainly make its emphasis in the work. In the work, you can use both liquid potal and flakes.

Decorate with potala

To cover the picture with sweat flakes, draw a strip with glue with a thin brush. Then carefully place the potal on the picture with tweezers. After drying, wipe off the remnants of sweat with a soft brush.

Step 6: cover with a protective layer

Upon completion, the work can be coated with resin or treated with a protective varnish.

The first coat of varnish must be applied sparingly from the aerosol, so as not to spoil the picture. If you fill the image from above with epoxy resin (it will give shine) – also pour on a layer of protective varnish, otherwise the resin may react with ink.

Precautions when working with resin:
always wear gloves, armbands and an apron;
even if the components are certified as non-toxic, do not allow contact with the skin and always work in a well-ventilated area;
try to work in a respirator mask and not inhale alcohol vapor, because it is a solvent, and when injected into the epoxy reduces its non-toxicity.

As a result, you get a wonderful abstraction that will delight you for a long time!
